I thought my first post would be about Canadians supporting BC growers. I know most of us try to buy Canadian, whenever it is available at local farmer's markets, green grocers or supermarkets. We honestly love you!
I attended the annual Canadian Cherry Association meeting a few days in Kelowna. Part of the discussion to my dismay, was the continuing strong presence of USA grown cherries in Canadian supermarkets. The sale of BC cherries has remained flat during the past few years, while USA cherries incremental sales are staggering. We were all looking at this graph chart, Canadian sales were a straight flat line like on a heart monitor...DEAD! USA sales were like climbing Mount Everest! Wow! I thought to myself, what are we doing wrong?
I mean supporting and buying local is part of the Canadian identity. One of the reasons I decided to build the new BcCherry.ca website is to help promote BC cherries...considered by many cherry connoiseurs to be the best in the world! You can help BC Growers by asking your local supermarkets to buy Canadian produce. Unfortunately, there are a few companies in Canada that care more about corporate profits than supporting local growers.
Grocery Chains do take customer's opinions seriously, especially when you go out of your way to visit their Customer Service counter. Please fill in a Comment Card. I mean statistically speaking, for every shopper that expresses their opinion...99 shoppers (I'm guessing on the exact number) do not.
Your comments and feedback is appreciated (good or bad). Thanks for visiting our website and God Bless!
